چکیده

We present near-IR photometry and spectroscopy of 30 extremely luminous radio mid-IR selected galaxies. With bolometric luminosities exceeding $\sim10^{13}$ $\rm{L_{\odot}}$ redshifts ranging from $z = 0.880-2.853$, we use VLT instruments X-shooter ISAAC to investigate this unique population Broad multi-component emission lines are detected in 18 galaxies measure the $\rm{H\rm{\beta}}$, $\text{[OIII]}\rm{\lambda}\rm{\lambda}4959,5007$ $\rm{H\rm{\alpha}}$ six, 15 13 respectively, with 10 $\rm{Ly\alpha}$ five CIV additionally UVB arm. broad $\text{[OIII]}\rm{\lambda}5007$ as a proxy for AGN luminosity, derive lower limits supermassive black hole masses $10^{7.9}$-$10^{9.4}$ $\text{M}_{\odot}$ expectations corresponding host $10^{10.4}$-$10^{12.0}$ $\text{M}_{\odot}$. $\rm{\lambda}_{Edd}$ > 1 eight these sources at $2\sigma$ significance. Black hole masses in active galaxies

This contribution reviews two topics of current interest in the study of black hole demographics in active galaxies: Can the stellar velocity dispersions of quasar host galaxies be measured? And can we constrain the black hole mass function below 10 M ?

The black-hole masses of Seyfert galaxies and quasars

The central black-hole masses of a sample of 30 luminous quasars are estimated using Hβ fwhm measurements from a combination of new and previously-published nuclear spectra. The quasar black-hole mass estimates are combined with reverberationmapping measurements for a sample of Seyfert galaxies (Wandel, Peterson & Malkan 1999) in order to study AGN black-hole masses over a wide range in nuclear...

On black hole masses, radio-loudness and bulge luminosities of Seyfert galaxies

We estimated black hole masses for 9 Seyfert 1 and 13 Seyfert 2 galaxies in the Palomar and CfA bright Seyfert samples using the tight correlation between black hole mass and bulge velocity dispersion. Combining other 13 Seyfert 1s and 2 Seyfert 2s in these samples but with black hole masses measured recently by reverberation mapping and stellar/gas dynamics, we studied the correlations of blac...

Inclinations and black hole masses of Seyfert 1 galaxies

A tight correlation of black hole mass (MBH) and central velocity dispersion (σ) has been found recently for both active and quiescent galaxies. By applying this correlation, we develop a simple method to derive the inclination angles for a sample of 11 Seyfert 1 galaxies that have both measured central velocity dispersions and black hole masses estimated by reverberation mapping. These angles,...

Radio-loudness of Active Galaxies and the Black Hole Evolution

Active galactic nuclei (AGNs) form two distinct sequences on the radio-loudness – Eddington-ratio plane. The ‘upper’ sequence contains radio selected AGNs, the ‘lower’ sequence is composed mainly of optically selected AGNs. The sequences mark the upper bounds for the radio-loudness of two distinct populations of AGNs, hosted respectively by elliptical and disk galaxies. Both sequences show the ...
